Live at the Forum is a live album by the Jackson 5. It was released on June 21, 2010. The concerts were recorded on June 20, 1970 and August 26, 1972 at The Forum, in Inglewood, California.

The 1970 show was a record-breaking show of over 18,000 attending. Only having two albums and a couple of singles out, the band were able to draw such a big crowd. This concert is an example of a very early part of their career.

By 1972, the Jackson 5 were established icons and had seven albums on the Motown label, not including Michael or Jermaine's solo albums, which plays a big part in the 1972 set. Michael's voice shows early signs of changing (as this concert was three days before his 14th birthday), he's still singing in a high-pitched voice but throughout most of this set he's straining to do so, at times screeching to hit the notes he once could sing the years prior. Some songs were transposed to a lower key and Michael sang alternate phrasings to prevent his voice from cracking.

  • The band's usual opening song, 'Stand!', was excluded from the release because the boys were having technical difficulties. Jermaine’s vocal microphone was off and his bass amplifier was inaudible, so the show had to be stopped for several minutes while the sound crew fixed everything.
  • 'Mama's Pearl' was taken from their concert in Indiana, May 29, 1971. It is one of the five unreleased songs from that concert.
  • 'Ain't No Sunshine' was recorded the night after, at the San Diego International Sports Arena, August 27, 1972. It was edited into Michael's solo set, where in the San Diego show, it was else where in the set.

Anthology was originally released as a triple-album set by legendary Motown family unit, The Jackson 5, in 1976. It was at this point that most of the Jacksons (with the glaring exception of Jermaine Jackson) had left the label to join CBS Records. Motown president Berry Gordy once said that the Jackson 5 were 'the last superstars to come off the Motown assembly line'; after the group left the label, Motown would not have another act to equal its success until Boyz II Men in the 1990s.

Later repackagings of Anthology have compiled it as a double compact disc set. The most recent re-release, issued by Motown in 2000 (the first time the release doesn't contain any hits from Michael or Jermaine), was repackaged in 2005 in North America as part of its Gold series, and in 2006 internationally as The Jackson 5 Story.

Christgau's Record GuideB+[2]
The Rolling Stone Album Guide[3]

Reviewing Anthology in Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies (1981), Robert Christgau wrote: Mirc activation code.

'The only one of Motown's triple-LP retrospectives to concentrate on (or even include much) '70s music documents an institution in decline. Initially, the company marshalls everything it's got for one final push—not for nothing was the group's songwriting-production combine called The Corporation, and it's a measure of their seriousness that they asked the Crusaders to help with the tracks. But within two years they'd run out of gas—all the mini-comebacks after that, even the dancing-machine coup, were flukes. The proof is that the old-formula filler often surpasses the desperate imitations that became minor hits—better 'E-Ne-Me-Ne-Mi-Ne-Moe' than 'Skywriter' or 'A Little Bit of You.' The selection includes Michael's hits, Jermaine's hit, the works, and as the other albums disappear it will become essential in its way. But not to listen to, much.'[2]
